I took a Greek colleague to her first match at Lord’s a long while back. England v New Zealand day 1. I think there were fewer than 200 runs and one wicket the whole day. She said, “I love it. I hadn’t realised it wasn’t really all about the match on the field.”

Duke of York in St John’s Wood is not one of my first choice places. But it is close to Lord’s and is ambiguous in the matter of which Duke of York it might commemorate.

I don’t believe I have ever taken a Latvian person to Lord’s. No particular reason for the omission, other than a lack of Latvians in my orbit.
