It’s good to see due deference in action, Mike, I thank you for that.

Thanks also for your menial efforts on Facebook – someone has to put all of their personal data at risk and I certainly agree that the “someone” in this instance should have been you, certainly not me.

James Taylor really was a significant loss from the middle order and from the close fielding positions from whence he so often pulled off the moment of brilliance in the field that potentially changed the course of the match.

The fact that he’s been contributing with neither bat nor ball makes it seem more likely that he’s mentally shredded.

I did it on the facebook post, Ged, but left it to the Leadership Group to pull the trigger on the traditional long-format version.

Also a James Taylor heightist reference. This post nearly has it all.

You’re over-thinking it. Moeen was dropped because he’s been in abysmal form for the last six months.

England’s commitment to the aesthetic beauty of the cover drive is admirable. So long as Vince can play one of those every innings, before reverting to his usual role of slip fielding coach for the opposition, his place is safe. As it should be. Some things are more important than winning.

I thought the same about Warner, but in terms of nailing him in the field of play. Your comment about ’emotional investment’ lead me to think about Moeen Ali being dropped. Is there a premise in the longevity of selection of certain players for England based on the amassadorial over consistency in matches? Rather than a paucity of possible replacements, there must be a reluctance to eject players that stand up as personalities and advocates, especially when young fans need to be attracted to the possible waning of the Test format.

Stuart Broad’s back? As in returned – he doesn’t have ankylosing spondylitis or anything like that, surely?

That’s precisely the point we were making. One way or another, he increases people’s emotional investment in the action. That’s one reason why we’re not delighted about David Warner being banished.
