The IPL’s fast approaching. Are you all excited?

It won’t be taking place in India, of course. It looks like it’ll be in South Africa at the minute. But while all the fixtures and all the scheduling might be a bit last minute, the teams themselves are primed and ready to go.

Let’s check in on the website of our boys, Kings XI Punjab.

Kings XI Punjab DOT COM!

Looks like things are going even more smoothly than last year.

  1. I’m a Delhi Daredevils fan myself – with the potent combination of Shah and Collingwood leading the team, I’m confident that its our year. And they have the best logo.

  2. But do they have teh awesome of Mahendra Singh Dhoni? No. They do not. Only one team does. Go Chennai!

  3. Sanga > Dhoni

I had such high hopes for Kings XI last year, we had some talented internationals, some fine local bowlers and the best looking franchise owner in world sport. Unfortunately, we also had a dud of an icon player (Yuvi) – I think he worked out at about $5K per run last year 🙁

I wonder if Mumbai would consider a direct trade for Harbhajan – he was instrumental in motivating Sreesanth last year and it would be useful to have him around to offer a ‘guiding hand’ to the younger guys in the team.

  4. Ceci, it’s asking me what 4+1 is. If I wanted to do some maths challenges, I’d go on Countdown. Not log on to some poxy cricket website.

Kings XI Punjab (why’s it taken me a whole year to spot the lack of apostrophe?), on the other, don’t bother you with elementary addition. They’re kings, and there are eleven of them. Fact.

Oh, and Preity is their queen. Not a patch on Mithali’s cover drive, obviously, but she certainly puts cricket bats in unusual places.

  5. I’m sticking with Rajasthan as people who change their sporting allegiance are worse than people who think the Daily Mail is an ‘aspirational’ newspaper, although I will permit myself to support Flintoff regardless of what colour hat he is wearing.

  6. It’s going to be held in… South Africa! Yay!

I know why. On Wikipedia’s page “List of Cities in South Africa” there are exactly eight. There are also exactly eight IPL teams. This neatly avoids having to decide which cities are not up to the job of having an IPL team.

However, it still leaves the problem of how to decide which team plays where. Presumably, they’ll have a live televised auction, where each city will bid billions of Rand for the better teams, and billions of Zim Dollars for the Deccan Chargers.
