RIP Phil Hughes. So tragic and awful. Also feel for the bowler. He seemed to come across as a nice guy.

Woke to the tragic news this morning that Phil Hughes has died. Words cannot express how sad and shocking this incident has been.

During Phil’s brief time at Middlesex, Daisy and I enjoyed one of the most exciting days at County Championship cricket of my (much longer) life. 9 May 2009. Phil Hughes was in dominating form that match and indeed set up the nail-biter at the end of the final day, which we so enjoyed.

There’s no fitting tribute in these circumstances, but this is one of the ways I shall fondly remember him.

I don’t know, history suggests it’s really hard to chase on that ground. I think they gave it a good go — I just don’t think Ben Stokes is good enough in these conditions.

Sam, I guess you are aware of how spookily similar the stats of Jeff Jones and his son Simon are? It must be the Force
